The Visionary Behind Silk Threads
Ruby Bhandari is a prominent fashion designer and the founder and CEO of Silk Threads, a Dallas-based design house celebrated for its elegant fusion of traditional South Asian artistry and modern Western silhouettes.
Born in New York and raised in Austin, Texas, Ruby's creative journey began in the eighth grade. Prompted by her mother's encouragement, she discovered a passion for fabric, stitch, and structure. Unsatisfied with the limited selection of high-end ethnic wear in the US, Ruby and her mother began designing custom ensembles for family and community social gatherings, setting the foundation for what would become a lifelong pursuit of fashion excellence.
In 1991, while she was a sophomore pursuing a finance degree at the University of Texas at Austin, Ruby officially launched Silk Threads. Recognizing a growing demand for high-end, tailored ethnic fashion in the South Asian-American community, she relocated the design house to the Dallas-Fort Worth area after graduation, turning her passion project into a full-scale business.
Couture Craftsmanship & Manufacturing
To deliver the impeccable service and unmatched quality her clients expect, Ruby established her own custom manufacturing units in New Delhi, India. This direct connection to master artisans allows Silk Threads to incorporate traditional Indian embroideries—such as Zardozi, Gota Patti, and intricate thread-work—onto premium silks, brocades, and organza, tailored perfectly to contemporary aesthetics.
For over three decades, Silk Threads has grown from a home-based boutique into an internationally recognized brand, dressing celebrities and custom-designing hundreds of bridal ensembles each year. Every outfit is crafted as a unique work of art, designed to celebrate the individuality of the client.

Beyond the atelier, Ruby Bhandari is a dedicated philanthropist and community leader. A strong advocate for social causes, she hosts annual charity fashion galas that have raised over $100,000 for nonprofits, including the American Cancer Society, Mosaic Family Services, and local university arts initiatives.
Her contributions have earned her numerous accolades, including being named one of D Magazine's "10 Most Beautiful Women in Dallas" in 2013 and receiving the "Best Designer of the Year" honor at the 2016 Texas Fashion Awards. Today, Silk Threads continues to innovate, inspire, and define luxury ethnic fashion.
